How is an agent paid?
We are paid directly through royalties once the book is published: we do not ask for additional advance payment from our writers or illustrators. We are paid a percentage of everything the author earns, a percentage that varies with the type of book, the format and the amount of work.
Type of manuscript | Percentage of royalties | Comments |
Picture books, non fiction children’s books and other illustrated formats | 10% for the text 15% if the text is already illustrated | If the text is already illustrated, and if the writer and the illustrator are two different persons, a contract will have to be concluded with both the writer and the illustrator. Please note that an already illustrated book is usually more difficult to publish. |
Children’s novels and novels that are either science-fiction, fantasy or the fantastic genre | 10 % 15% if the text is above 500 000 signs space included 20% if the text is above 850 000 signs space included | Please note that we only work on achieved texts. Comic books | 15 % | If the writer and the illustrator are two different persons, a contract will have to be concluded with both the writer and the illustrator. |
